Bore Rehabilitation in Guernsey – A Simple Success Story

Back in 2003, I had the opportunity to travel to Guernsey Island to conduct bore rehabilitation training with the local contractors. It was an excellent chance to share knowledge, but also to see firsthand the challenges faced by those relying on groundwater in such a unique setting.
The very first job we tackled was a small household bore that had a long history of iron bacteria fouling. For the family, this bore wasn’t just another water source – it was their only water supply. Naturally, they were keen to see it restored and working reliably again.
Armed with nothing more than a block of wood, a hose, and a bucket of BoreSaver Ultra C, we set to work. The treatment was straightforward but effective. Within a short time, the bore was brought back to full capacity, delivering clean water once again.
What made the outcome even more satisfying was its long-term simplicity. Since then, the local contractor gives the bore a routine clean about once a year, and it continues to perform just as it should.
This little case study from Guernsey shows that bore rehabilitation doesn’t always need to be complicated. With the right products and a bit of know-how, even severely fouled bores can be restored to reliable service – and kept that way with minimal effort.
