When Good Installations Go Bad – The Case of the Upside-Down Link!

We recently had a call from one of our long-time clients, Melissa, who reported that her StainStopper Pulse system had suddenly stopped working. To get to the bottom of it, we sent our service technician, Josh, out for a fault check.

The problem was immediately obvious.

Melissa had recently had a contractor install a new reticulation controller, and during the process they removed the wireless link from the wall. Unfortunately, instead of refitting it properly, they left it dangling from the control wires. Over winter, with plenty of rain around, water ran down the cables straight into the enclosure — which was hanging upside down and therefore no longer waterproof.

The result? As you can see in the photo, the sender electronics filled with water and shorted out completely. The entire wireless unit was destroyed and had to be replaced.

This is a good reminder to anyone with outdoor control equipment — always make sure your enclosures are mounted securely and the right way up. A little care in installation can save you the cost of a full replacement later.

At Aquabiotics, we design and support our systems to last, but correct installation and protection from the elements are essential to ensure long life and reliable performance.

If you’re not sure whether your StainStopper Pulse or BoreSaver control units are weather-safe, give us a call and we’ll help you check before the next big downpour!
